Rainwater Harvesting

TEWOAF is committed to improving the quality of the drinking water at the Uluru Children's Home. In partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Monash (Melbourne) and Besant Nagar (Chennai), a rainwater-harvesting project is being implemented to collect monsoon rainwater from the roof of the Dormitory and to store it. This will reduce reliance on the well, which was salinated by seawater after the Tsunami. Excess water can then be used to refresh environmental water stores. Foundations were laid in March 2008 and the project is nearly operational. Once this project is completed, the Home should be able to independently provide clean and fresh drinking water for more than 80 residents. The next monsoon will hopefully see lots of water collected.
