Informal Education

In addition to targeting students at local Government primary schools, TEWOAF is developing strategies to address the needs of other target groups in the community:

  • Students studying 10th, 11th and 12th standards who cannot afford additional tuition
  • School drop outs
  • Unemployed youth
  • Illiterate persons
  • Self help groups

Various initiatives are in place or being developed to provide a range of educational programs to these target groups, based on their requests for assistance:

  • English classes currently occur on a daily basis for local youth
  • Additional tuition for failed Year 10 students who have been given an opportunity to re-sit their exams.
  • Evening tuition for higher secondary students to commence in near future
  • A range of literacy programs to commence in near future for illiterate community members
  • Plans are currently being developed for a range of informal education programs for school drop outs
  • Plans for a Vocational Training Centre are in their early stages this is something that local youth have been requesting for some time
  • In the long-term, TEWOAF hopes to be able to provide basic community college courses in areas that are locally relevant
